Ohio Drops One-Goal Decision to New York Lizards

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Ohio Machine fell to the New York Lizards, 15-14 after a hard fought battle on the Island.

Though the outcome was disappointing, it was not without its highlights. Tom Schreiber stole the show for the Machine with a massive four goals on the evening. While Jake Bernhardt and Mark Cockerton each snagged three to keep the Machine neck-and-neck with the Lizards. Kyle Bernlohr and the Faceless men continued their excellence, stopping a 15 shots on goal.

First Half

The first quarter was all goalie as neither team was able to put up a tally for over ten minutes. New York sniped the first of the night with a goal with 4:20 left in the first. Ohio retaliated quickly with a snipe by Marcus Holman with 2:57 left in the first. The Lizards would score with less than two minutes in the first before the Machine would quickly return with a snipe by Jake Bernhardt ending the first in a 2-2 tie. Ohio started the second quarter with a tally by Tom Schreiber at 13:58 in the second to make it 3-2. New York was on the rebound quickly with back-to-back snipes to give them the 4-3 advantage. The game would stay true to it's back-and-forth theme as Connor Cannizzaro snagged a loose groundball, dished it over to Mark Cockerton who rifled it in for the score to make it a 4-4 game. The Lizards would go on a two-goal run again before Patrick Kelly would score in five seconds on the man-up advantage to make it 6-5 New York lead at the end of the half.

Third Quarter

The Lizards would start the third on a three-goal streak to make it a 9-6 New York lead. Ohio came back with a three-goal hot streak with snipes by Peter Baum (12:17), Marcus Holman (10:41) and Tom Schreiber (7:17) to make it an 8-9 game. Tom Schreiber would score for the third time to tie the game up at 9 a piece at 5:46. But the Lizards would answer quickly with a tally at 5:27 in the third to make it a 10-9 Lizard advantage. Jake Bernhardt rifled a rip into the back of the net to make it a 10-10 game at 4:09 before Mark Cockerton would snipe a goal off a pass from Bernhardt with 58 seconds left in the third to give Ohio the one goal advantage. The quarter would end with an 11-10 Ohio lead.

Fourth Quarter

The Ohio Machine started off the fourth with a goal by Mark Cockerton less than one minute into the fourth quarter before the Lizards would shoot back with a tally at 12:19 in the fourth. With Ohio up by one Bernhardt continued to proved his offensive talent with his third of the night at 10:49 to make it a 13-11 Ohio advantage. The goal of the night was scored by Tom Schreiber when Holman dished a behind the back to Schreiber who sniped the top right corner to make it 14-11 Ohio. The Lizards would quickly prove their tenacity with two back-to-back goals to give make it 14-13 Ohio before New York would snipe a massive 2pt shot with less than one minute to play in the fourth giving them the 15-14 win over Ohio.

Ohio will return to action July 15, when it hosts the Denver Outlaws inside Fortress Obetz at 7:00 p.m.
